Minutes of the last meeting/matters arising:
Rob Bailey provided some information on the Association of Running Clubs (ARC). Some league clubs are affiliated solely to ARC, some solely to England Athletics and some to both. After some discussion, it was agreed that clubs hosting events should continue to register league races with the organisation to which they are affiliated. The Booth Decorators League is currently affiliated to England Athletics. Rob Bailey to enquire of ARC if they have a mechanism for a league affiliation.
Rob Bailey circulated a copy of an email he had sent to Barry Holmes (Secretary of Mansfield Harriers & AC), asking if they would consider hosting a fixture. No reply has been received, so it was decided to send a follow-up letter asking what their intentions are. (They were not represented at this meeting.) A deadline for a reply would be included and if this deadline is not met it will inform the next action by the BDL Committee.
Treasurer’s Report: Jerry Bateman presented detailed balance sheets and reported that all club subscriptions have been paid and there had been a net profit of £42.11. The accumulated fund therefore stands at £1057.11 which is still very healthy. Louis Booth confirmed that he is willing to continue with sponsorship of both road and cross country leagues. He also confirmed that there would again be a presentation at Derby Rugby Club following the first road race fixture on the 22nd April. Louis was formally thanked for his continued sponsorship. He invited support with sponsorship from other businesses/organisations. Please let Louis know if you, or any acquaintance, might be interested.
Race Secretary’s Report on Road Race season:
Tony Chadburn reported that the fields for the five cross-country fixtures had ranged from 157 to 127. The number of male entrants varied more than female ones. 95 different runners were listed in the individual prize competition. He confirmed that Heanor, Ripley, Belper and Sutton had won places in the National Final. Tony was thanked for his excellent management of the results.
Confirmation of Officers
Louis Booth (Chair), Jerry Bateman (Treasurer) Tony Chadburn (Race Secretary) and Rob Bailey (Correspondence Secretary) agreed to continue in their roles.
Review of the Cross Country League (2007-2008):
No problems were reported with any of the courses, although car parking management was an issue with the Kimberley event at Bramcote Park. A female junior had competed in one event for Mansfield but was ineligible as she was too young. Age limits will be incorporated on the circulated fixture lists.
National Cross Country Final (Ampthill – 6th April 2008)
None of the four qualifying clubs declared an intention to attend this event on account of the distance, (it’s near Milton Keynes) and the fact that the event is the week before the London Marathon. Rob Bailey to write to Dave Mann (Co-ordinator) to convey these points.
Application by Long Eaton Running Club to join the BDL.
Rob Bailey read out a letter from Ian Wallis (Long Eaton RC Secretary) requesting admission to the BDL League with immediate effect to enable them to participate in the forthcoming road race season. There was general support for this in principle but there were concerns that excessive numbers might compromise course management and that car parking could become a problem. After some discussion, it was agreed to admit Long Eaton RC to the league for the cross-country season 2008-2009. (The cross-country courses can generally accommodate more runners.) The effect on numbers could then be reviewed at the BDL meeting in March 2009 and a decision made as to whether they should be fully admitted to the league. Rob Bailey to write to Ian Wallis to this effect.
Booth Decorators Road Race League Rules 2008
See separate sheet and note changes to Race Secretary contact details and Rule 14.
Booth Decorators Road Race League Fixtures 2008 (confirm)
All events confirmed without alteration. Chesapeake RR requested support with marshalling as there are a number of ‘hot spots’ on their course. All club representatives agreed to provide at least one marshal for this event. Marshals should report to Malcolm Dilks by 6.30pm.
‘Booth Decorators’ Cross-country League Fixtures 2008-2009:
(See separate sheet.) Kimberley agreed again to host a fixture at Bramcote Park but Paul Thompson explained that this year’s event had incurred a bill of £87.50 to Broxtowe Borough Council. Jerry Bateman pointed out that this could be subsidised through league funds, (as agreed at the last meeting).
Any Other Business:
Peter Kemp asked if trophies would be available at this year’s presentation as a number of Belper members had waited behind after the 2007 event to find that their trophy had not been returned. Louis Booth undertook to rectify this by ensuring that a perpetual trophy would be presented to Belper on April 22nd.
All clubs are urged to return all annual trophies to Louis Booth on or before the presentation event at Derby Rugby Club on the 22nd April.
There being no other business the meeting closed at 8.46 pm.
Date of next meeting: Monday 8th September 2008 at The Pear Tree.
