Road Race

 

‘ BOOTH DECORATORS’ LEAGUE ROAD RACE LEAGUE RULES 2008

 

1             There will be no limit on the number of competitors.

 

2             For each race 10 runners from each club will score as follows:

 

               The first 7 men, whether Juniors, Seniors or Veterans.

               The first 3 women, whether Juniors, Seniors or Veterans.

 

Men and women will have their own team competitions. The men’s and women’s team scores will be combined to form their club’s overall team score.

 

3             There will be trophies for the first four teams in each competition, i.e. Men’s, Women’s and Combined. This will mean 12 trophies altogether.

 

4             Each competing finisher will receive a disc according to position, with men and women counting together through one funnel. Race envelopes will be circulated with a set of finishing discs. It is the responsibility of hosting clubs to pass these on to key representatives of the club hosting the next fixture in the series. Spaces for position, name and category should be marked clearly on each envelope. Clubs are asked to write clearly on the envelopes and to ensure that the categories listed are accurate. If there is a disparity between the category submitted on a club list at the beginning of the series and that recorded on the envelope, the listed category will be applied. Host club to work out the score for its event. Complete results to be sent to:

               who will send updated league tables to each club and report to ‘Athletics Weekly’.

 

5             Errors to be notified to the Results Secretary within 3 days of receipt of the results.

 

6             No course to be longer than 6 miles.

 

7.            Where a club cannot field a team of counting runners as in 2, (above), they may                             substitute the position after the last finisher for each scoring position not otherwise            filled.      

 

8             League tables to be based on points accumulated for each fixture. The club with the lowest total being awarded 9 points, the second 8 points and so on. In the event of a tie the club with the most first places will be declared the winner. In the event of a tie at the end of the series the club with the lowest aggregate score over the 5 race series shall be deemed to be first. If these totals are identical the club that has had the greater number of participating competitors shall be deemed to be the winner.

 

9             The age range for junior runners is 14-17. Runners will be classified as juniors if they are under 17 on the date of the first fixture. Juniors who reach the age of 14 during the race series may run in subsequent fixtures. They may score points but not claim prizes.

 

10           Juniors, seniors and veterans will be categorised according to their age on the day of the first race, and will remain in those categories regardless of subsequent birthdays.

 

11           Winning competitors are not allowed to claim trophies outside their own categories.

12           Individual categories are as follows, with trophy winning positions:

13           Individual positions will be decided by accumulated points throughout the series.

 

14           Senior and Veteran competitors’ best 4 scores within their age/gender category count towards individual prizes, i.e. the worst score can be dropped. Junior competitors’ best 3 scores count, i.e. the worst 2 scores can be dropped. Senior and Veteran runners must complete at least 4 races in order to be eligible for a trophy. Juniors must complete at least 3.

 

15           In advance of the first fixture, the Race Secretary will circulate full club lists from last season with a request for amendments. These must be returned before the first fixture on Tuesday 22nd April 2008.

 

16           Second claim runners may compete but must be declared in writing to the Race Secretary before the first fixture on Tuesday 22nd April 2008. A maximum of three second claim runners may count towards the final score.

 

17           Competitors may not represent more than one club during the series.

 

18           All competitors must wear approved club vests. Any competitor not doing so will be disqualified. Any complaints about colours should be made to a non-competing member of the host club who is administering the race. Complaints concerning runners from the host club may be made to any league official.

 

19              The status of each competitor on the day will apply. Runners serving bans may run as guests wearing neutral colours, and may not compete for their new club until the ban has been served. Guests and under-age runners must ‘run out’ before the finishing funnel.

 

20           In the event of any complaint regarding any individual or groups of competitors, marshals, spectators or any organisational procedures, such complaints must be put in writing and emailed to any one or all of the League Committee, (i.e. Chairman, Treasurer, Race Secretary or Correspondence Secretary), within 48 hours of the grievance having taken place. The committee will undertake to resolve the matter within the seven days following the grievance and certainly before the date of the next fixture. All results will be withheld until the complaint is resolved. If necessary, a Grievance Committee meeting will be convened by the Chair. The time and venue for such a meeting will be at the discretion of the Chair. To be deemed quorate, this Committee will be comprised of at least 5 representatives from different clubs. Each club represented at such a meeting will be entitled to one vote. In the event of equal votes on any issue the Chair will hold the casting vote.
