A minibus was used to deliver the runners (and drinkers !) to a drop-off point around 8 miles away from the end location and two groups of runners were set off at a 10-minute interval to try and finish as close together as possible.

The bus was awash with rumour as to whom the mystery organisers were and, most intriguing of all, where we’d end up !

Chellaston to Mercia Marina

Yvonne & Alastair Hobday arranged the first, starting at the Bonnie Prince pub in Chellaston, taking the gang on a winding route through fields and down canal path to end up in the Boardwalk bar at Mercia Marina.

Swadlincote to Barton-under-Needwood

Karen & Eamonn O’Hanlon took over leaders duties for the second Mystery Pub Run, starting at Rosliston Forestry Centre and finishing up, for well earned refreshments, at the Waterfront at Barton Marina.

Last year’s ‘A Bit Of Something For Everyone’ Tour saw five dates on the annual summer social training run tour and included Saturday evening runs for the first time.

For those not in the know, the pub run tour sees three groups (numbers permitting) venture on an easy-paced multi-terrain run to a pub somewhere in Derbyshire with the aim being that everyone reaches the intended destination at roughly the same time.

There will be four different pubs on the calendar this year in an alternating Friday-Saturday pattern.

5.30pm Saturday June 14th – The Abbey, Darley Abbey

6.30pm Friday August 15th – The Boat Inn, Cromford

5.30pm Saturday August 30th – Mr Grundys Tavern, Derby

All the longer-distance runs start from Shipley Park car park (and the shorter option starting from the Bell Inn at Smalley) with the exception of the Cromford run, which will start from the car park at Whatstandwell Railway Station.

The tour involves a once-a-month run to a pub somewhere in Derbyshire during the summer. Simple.

This year there are five different venues and the idea is that the runs are easy-paced, three groups (numbers permitting) of similar abilitied runners set off from the same location (either Shipley Park or The Bell at Smalley) but at different times, with the aim that everyone reaches the intended destination at roughly the same time.

The runs are (normally) multi-terrain and last about 60-70 minutes. You arrange your own lift back and sort out your own change of clothes and drinking money (the club cannot be held responsible for any of those, unfortunately).

For those more familiar, please note the change of days – the old Friday (& occasional Sunday) format has been complimented by a couple of Saturday runs.
