One to go – all to play for

The penultimate round of the Dog Kennel Challenge on a cold and icy Saturday morning saw things tighten up in the race to become King & Queen of the Dog Kennel Hill.

Rita (45 circuits from 4 rounds), Georgina (43 from 4) and Heather (43 from 4) have completed the most so far but it’s in a number of the age categories where the real interest lies.
In the Senior Ladies, Georgina and Heather lead the way but only by six from Kelsey.
Only two circuits separate first and second in the VM40 category with Ian M leading Glenn with both having completed three rounds.
In the MV50 category Tony leapfrogged both Pete and Eamon to move to 39 from 3.
Remember, competitors need to have competed in FOUR rounds to qualify!

As an added incentive to bring runners out on a Saturday, Rob and Jo held the draw for the club’s London Marathon place with Pete Edwards the “lucky” winner.
A hard winters training awaits!

Go to the main Dog Kennel page for the full results and standings.

Event No.4 – 5km Race

And so the curtain came down on what was a wet but successful Heanor Running Club Grand Prix. 28 runners braved the conditions with 14 managing to race back to back to back.
And after running over 21 miles only a point or two separated some of the categories, and in one case, the winner could only be decided by adding up the total time taken (remarkably it was just THREE seconds!).

So congratulations go to:
Liam Johnson (Senior Men and Overall)
Ian Mellors (MV40)
Dani Smith (Senior Ladies)
Elaine Wilkins (LV35)
Jayne Lynas (LV45)
Jo Potter (LV50)
Sue Pinder (LV55)

Keep your eyes peeled for a possible Winter Grand Prix and watch this space for next years event!

FINAL RESULTS HERE!

Event No.3- 10km Race
With a time of 40 minutes dead, Ethan Rowley again led the runners home.
Things are tight at the top of some the tables with only 1 point separating 1st and second in the Senior Men, Senior Ladies and Vet 40 Men’s categories.
Remember you need to do all four events to qualify so if you’ve done three so far make sure you’re there for the last event, the 5k on Thursday 20th June.!

Event No.2 – 7 Mile Race
Despite the best attempts of the weather to make this one of the wettest Junes on record there were still 18 runners who managed to get their kit and shoes dried in time for the second race in the Grand Prix series. This time Ethan Rowley was the first runner back with an impressive time of 44 minutes 52 seconds.

Wring your kit out, we go again next week with the 10K and 5K events!

Results and Standings after the 7 mile race

Event No. 1 – 5 Mile Race
Ashley Deeming led the field home as the first race in the Heanor Running Club Grand Prix got underway. Heavy rain wasn’t enough to stop 21 runners tackling the 5 mile distance.

With the top award in each age category up for grabs for the runners who can complete all four in the series there promises to be some keenly contested battles ahead. Consistency could be the key!
