BDL Race 4: Shipley Hall Cricket Club, Sunday 13th January

Second place on home turf for Heanor RC.

In the second half of a cross country weekend double-header last weekend, Heanor Running Club played host for the fourth instalment of the 2012-13 BDL Cross Country League season.

On a tough, undulating route starting and finishing at Shipley Hall Cricket Club, the biting cold and slight layer of snow on the course were not enough to deter another strong field of runners.

Joe Rainsford (26:17), in his second race of the weekend, led the yellow and blue to a second-place finish overall as he won the individual race for the third time this season.

Ashley Deeming (27:18) also competed in his second race of the weekend and placed an impressive 6th, with Adam Biggs (27:36) following him closely to the line in 7th. Paul Clarke (28:42) managed a 14th place finish as Lee Perkins (29:18) finished just behind the first lady, Sarah Harris of Long Eaton RC, in 21st.

A close battle for the final two counting positions was edged by the recently-returned Jon Curtis (30:40), who finished one second and one position clear of Mike Richmond; the duo 34th and 35th respectively.

The team’s final score was enough for second overall, behind North Derbyshire RC, with the team still six points clear ahead of the final fixture in Chesterfield next month.

The trio of Lisa Palmer, debutant Wendy Roethenbaugh and Glenda Alton brought the ladies team home third on the day, just five positions behind second-placed Sutton AC, and they sit in 5th going into the final fixture.

Lisa Palmer matched her 3rd place in last week’s county championships by finishing 3rd female again, completing the 4.4 mile route in 31:05 and 41st overall.

Wendy Roethenbaugh, making her first appearance in the yellow and blue, enjoyed a successful debut in finishing first VL45 and 71st overall in 33:34.

Glenda Alton (35:35) completed the team’s scorers with another impressive run seeing her finish just outside the top-100 and first VL50.

A brilliant total of twenty Heanor RC runners turned out on home turf for the latest BDL, with encouraging performances from all helping to contribute to another successful outing.
