This weekend sees another North Midlands XC League and BDL double-header, with the seniors and juniors in action on Saturday in Corby before Chaddesden Park plays host to fixture number two of the BDL season on Sunday.

North Midlands XC League

The first North Mids fixture at Markeaton Park last month saw Heanor RC claim fifth in the men’s team standings.

James Mee crossed the line first, winning out by a second ahead of Ed Highton of OWLS AC, with Dale Annable and Stuart King also claiming top-10 finishes. Tom O’Mara in 32nd and Andy Basey in 104th completed the team’s scoring efforts.

Tony Weatherson and Andy Marriott – who competed in both cross country events in the last weekend double-header – finished 116th and 134th respectively.

In the junior races, Dylan George ran his first cross country in Heanor RC colours in the U13 boys 3k race, placing sixth, whilst Lily Winfield, in the bottom year of the U13 girls age category, and Ellie Baker finished fourth and 23rd respectively.

Moving up to the older age category, Danielle Smith in fifth and Emily Deeming in 24th performed well in the U15 girls category.

BDL XC League

The opening BDL at Shipley Park last month saw Heanor RC start the campaign as they finished the last, with victory in the men’s standings, third in the women’s and team victory overall.

Despite a depleted side due to North Mids & Valencia Half Marathon commitments, our first seven men all came home inside the top-40, with Ben O’Connell (3rd) and Tim Holling (4th) leading the way.

The two Wendys, Mullineux and Roethenbaugh, and Gemma Housley made up the ladies trio that finished a close third behind Ripley and North Derbyshire.

This weekend’s race at Chaddesden Park (directions from Heanor HERE) is set to kick-off at 11:05am, with a minute’s silence to be observed in recognition of Remembrance Sunday.

The presentation for the BDL Summer League season will take place post-race so stick around and celebrate the yellow and blue’s summer league success.
