The yellow and blue returned to the top of the senior men and combined standings in the second BDL XC of the winter at Chaddesden Park last Sunday.

A total of twenty-seven turned out for the second-half of another weekend double-header, with the ladies also improving on their first fixture efforts to secure second-spot.

Stuart King took the honours for the second-successive race and already looks a good bet to take the senior men’s title. Stuart led home a HRC 1-2-3 just twenty-four hours after finishing eleventh in the North Midlands Cross Country League fixture in Kettering.

Wendy Mullineux edged out Lucy Taylor of Ripley RC by the narrowest of margins to head the ladies race. Wendy won out by one second and was ably backed-up by top-100 finishes from Jill Burke and Laura Beth James-Hutchinson in the team scoring stakes.

Twenty-four hours before, five senior men plus Abbie Leivers and Lily Winfield trekked to Kettering for the second North Midlands XC of the season.

There wasn’t much shelter in the drizzly conditions but the seven in yellow and blue brought the club colours to life and put on another decent showing.

Joe Rainsford took the golden throne and led the men’s team home with an eighth-place finish as Stuart King (11th), James Mee (49th), Tony Weatherson (113th) and Paul Winfield (168th) completed the scoring numbers to place tenth on the day .

The sole HRC representative in the U13 girls race, Lily Winfield, followed up back-to-back races last weekend with a fifth-place finish whilst Abbie Leivers moved with the season to finish 61st in the senior women’s 6k race.
