Alastair Watson and Jane Potter led home a huge field of 869 runners at the Matthew Walker Christmas Pudding Run earlier today.

Runners from across the region completed the undulating 10k route round Shipley Country Park in freezing but still conditions.

The 29th running of the popular race saw swift times, 53 clubs represented, personal bests and Christmas pudding fancy dress, with 47 runners also completing the first-ever 1.5 mile fun run prior to the main event.

Alastair Watson (Notts AC) moved clear of the defending champion, Rich Weir, just before the midway point and continued to ease clear through the second half of the race. Watson enjoyed a clear 67 second victory in 30:48.

Charnwood AC pair, Jane and Juliet Potter, dominated the women’s race, with both sisters finishing inside the top-6 overall.

Jane maintained a clear advantage over her sibling throughout and eventually crossed the line fourth in 34:47. Juliet placed two positions and 36 seconds further back in 35:23.

Big thank you to everyone involved in another great day, especially to the runners for their continued support and the small army of volunteers that made it happen.
