Elvaston Castle & Country Park was the venue once again for the Sinfin RC-hosted Sinfin Classic 10k as fourteen Heanor RC runners toed the line in the latest Club Championship event.

The race made a welcome return to the HRC calendar of events following an absence of a few years and conditions were warm for the flat, one-lap route.

Entries completely sold out before the day, leaving some Heanor RC members disappointed and ruing not having entered the race sooner.

Steve Ashmore, who was under the spotlight in the new website Friday feature two days before, was the leading man in yellow and blue. Steve’s time wasn’t an indication of his current good form and fitness as he finished just outside the top-10 in 36:25.

Wendy Mullineux scooped maximum points in the female club championship standings as she finished 35th – and third female overall – in a time of 40:33.

Ed Godber (41:21), Wendy Roethenbaugh (41:22) – 1st V45 – and Paul Mercer (41:30) finished one after the other and were separated by just nine seconds as Rob Page (41:36) finished just six seconds further back.

Continuing the trend, Paul Winfield (44:15) and Ned Needham (44:20) finished side-by-side just inside the top-75 whilst Lizzie Poole (48:00) finished two seconds quicker than at the BUPA London 10,000m seven days before.

Matt Chambers (48:46), Rita Fisher (49:07), Steve Wardle (51:22), Jo Potter (51:52) and Carla Fox (55:54) rounded off a great show of yellow and blue strength, which will be required once more for the next BDL road race due to take place next Tuesday at Denby Pottery.

Before that, however, is the next installment of the 2014 HRC Club Championship and the return of the Ramathon after an eighteen-year absence this Sunday 8th June.
