Heanor Running Club members were in action in various events across the country last weekend.

Eight runners in yellow and blue made the trip to the north of the county and toed the line for the Bolsover 10k, hosted by North Derbsyhire. In a race won by last month’s Matthew Walker 10k winner, Rich Weir, Paul Winfield led the team home with a new personal best. Knocking over another minute off his best set just last month in Leeds, Paul finished 88th in 41:27.

Richard Charlesworth (41:59) followed Paul just half-a-minute behind whilst Scott Wigman (44:31) ended his year with a personal best. John Flint (45:09), Brett Beeson (46:26) and Steve Wardle (48:57) all went well-inside the 50-minute mark as 10k debutante Kirsty Hessey (55:49) and Rita Fisher (55:50) crossed the line together on the cold, biting morning.

Tim Hartley (71:31) took the honours at the front-end ahead of HRC second-claimer Stephen Price (73:26) as Shane Rice led the yellow and blue home in 16th. Shane clocked 79:42 in his first half marathon of the year.

Carl Hughes was just one minute off his Valencia Half Marathon time as he ran 1:27:12 whilst Lizzie Poole left “pretty chuffed” with her 1:45:48 effort. Completing the HRC interest over the county border were Andy Basey (1:48:04), Abbie Leivers (1:49:11) and Heather Wesson (2:14:12).

The fast-improving Gary Mellors went away from the notoriously quick Telford 10k with a big new personal best – just four weeks on from smashing his best by over two minutes at the Leeds Abbey Dash. Gary, who thought it would be “a while before I was even close to it” took eleven seconds off his best to cross the line in 38:42.
