Carl Hughes was the sole Heanor RC representative at an old club favourite over the weekend as he “raced the train & beat it again” in Tywyn, Wales.

Race the Train was a regular fixture on the club calendar throughout the noughties until the incessant wet weather year-on-year eventually dampened enthusiasm enough for a return but Carl finished 86th among the 768 finishers in 2014.

His time of 1:41:21 over the 14 mile cross country course was two minutes faster than the previous year and saw him beat the train by almost seven minutes!

Also in the field of 270 finishers for Heanor RC were Andy Parkin, who enjoyed “a good well-paced run” to run a PB of 2:21:03 whilst Andy Basey (2:24:25) finished strongly not far behind.
