The third BDL XC fixture of the season takes place this weekend – and it’s a new one on the calendar at Bakewell Showground, hosted by Matlock AC.

The yellow and blue returned to winning ways in the last race at Chaddesden Park. Stuart King won for the second-successive race to head a HRC 1-2-3 and lead the men’s team to victory whilst Wendy Mullineux scored a narrow victory to lead the women’s team home to second. The challenge is on to finish top-spot come February 8th at Holmebrook Valley Park.

This Sunday’s three-lap course of approximately 4.6 miles is likely to be a wet one (so minimum of 12mm spikes recommended). The route involves a multi-crossing of Combs Road between the upper and lower showground sites, wet sections close to the River Wye and long grass. Please see course map HERE.

The course is immediately adjacent to the Bakewell Agricultural Centre. where there is a large pay-and-display council car park for parking this weekend. Directions from Heanor HERE.

Please be aware that the race falls on the same day as the Bakewell Christmas Market so this, along with Chatsworth House being open for Christmas visitors, means the A6 from Matlock could potentially be busy. The race starts at 11:00am.

Public toilets will be open at the Agricultural Centre and in the town centre nearby from 10.00am.

The Matlock AC Chairman has also negotiated a special deal with the Farmers Feast Cafe in the Agricultural Centre of discounted hot drinks, bacon cobs and a three meat Sunday carvery should any runners and supporters intend to stick around after the race. Runners will need to show a club vest to claim the discount.

Thanks to James Thorneycroft for the detailed information.
