Heanor RC Grand Prix returns

The Heanor Running Club Grand Prix is back for a second year.

The four-part members-only series was held for the first time last summer. It was set up for members to race each other over varying distances over a two-week window.

Each race is free to enter and members can run in any number of them – but all four events must be completed to be in with a chance of winning.

The races take place on regular club training nights at Shipley Country Park. The series took place in August last year but has been moved to June this time around.

Please see the list of races and dates below:

  • 12 June – 5 miles
  • 14 June – 7 miles
  • 19 June – 10k
  • 21 June – 5k

The series took place in August last year but has been moved to June this time around. Courses include the recent measured and accurate routes used for the successful Midsummer Festival 10k and Community 5k.

The two further races feature the club’s 5 mile BDL Summer League course plus a 7 mile run that takes in the new trail leading off from Shipley Country Park towards Smalley.

The hard-fought series came down to the final 5k race in 2018. Category winners hoping to defend their titles this summer include:

  • SL: Jo Wright
  • VL45: Lizzie Poole
  • VL55: Rita Fisher
  • SM: Scott Wigman
  • VM40: Ian Mellors
  • VM45: Tony Weatherson
  • VM50: Eamon O’Hanlon

Trophies and vouchers for a local running outlet are up for grabs for category winners that complete all four events. Prizes will be presented at the annual awards night on 27 January 2019
